Drug addiction is one of dangerous phenomena that put humans at risk of mental, moral and physical degeneration. Addiction imposes huge economic, emotional and social costs on individuals and society. Addiction is a multifactorial disorder that is often chronic and recurrent. What is important in this regard is that addiction is preventable and curable, but its treatment is not easy because addiction has different dimensions. Prevention is more effective and cost-effective than treatment, and begins by identifying the factors, attributes and characteristics that make people vulnerable to addiction. In recent years, the attention of psychologists has been drawn to the concept of positive psychology. The results have shown that psychological capacities such as hope, resilience, optimism and self-efficacy form a synergy with the concept of psychological capital. In other words, psychological variables of hope, restraint, optimism and self-efficacy play an important role in the prevention and treatment of addiction. The tendency to addiction can be prevented by recognizing positive psychological capital (optimism, resilience, self-efficacy and hope) and even by selecting effective treatment appropriate to the conditions of drug dependent individuals.
